Chat2API is a desktop app that lets you connect to many AI service providers using a common API. You can use it with any client that works with OpenAI’s API. This means you can use services like DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi, MiniMax, Qwen, and Z.ai all in one place. It works on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Chat2API acts as a bridge between you and different AI services. Instead of using each service separately, you launch Chat2API on your computer. Then you connect your existing OpenAI-compatible software to Chat2API. It will send your requests to the AI service you choose, without making you learn new tools or platforms.
This makes managing AI tools simpler. Whether you want to try DeepSeek’s chat, use GLM-5’s language generation, or test Qwen3, Chat2API handles it all behind the scenes.
Before you start, make sure your Windows PC meets these needs:
- Windows 10 or newer (64-bit recommended)
- At least 4 GB of RAM (8 GB or more for better performance)
- Minimum 500 MB of free disk space
- Internet connection (required to access AI services)
- A standard keyboard and mouse
You will get the app directly from the official GitHub page. Follow these steps carefully.
Go to the Chat2API page provided below:
This link opens the GitHub repository where you can find the latest version to download.
- Scroll down or look at the right sidebar for a section called Releases.
- Click on the most recent release title (like “v1.0” or newer).
- In the release assets, look for a file named something like
Chat2API-Setup.exeorChat2API-x64.exe. This is the installer for Windows.
Click the file name to download it. Your browser may ask you to confirm or choose a download location. Pick a folder you can find easily, such as Downloads or your desktop.
The file size is usually under 100 MB, so it should not take long over a normal internet connection.
-
After the download finishes, open the folder where the file saved.
-
Double-click the installer file to begin installation.
-
You may see a security prompt - choose Run or Yes to continue.
-
Follow the instructions in the setup wizard:
- Agree to the license terms
- Choose an installation folder (default is fine)
- Click Install and wait for the process to complete
Once installed:
- A shortcut will appear on your desktop or in your Start Menu.
- Click it to open Chat2API.
- The app will open with a simple interface to select or add AI services.
The app lets you switch between AI providers without extra setup in your chat software.
- Inside Chat2API, find the API Endpoint address. It will look like
http://localhost:xxxx. - Open your OpenAI-compatible client software (like a chat app).
- Enter the API Endpoint from Chat2API in the client’s API settings instead of the regular OpenAI URL.
- Start chatting. Your messages will go through Chat2API to the chosen AI service.
- In Chat2API, use the service selector menu.
- Pick the provider you want: DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi, MiniMax, Qwen, Z.ai, or others.
- The app updates automatically to send requests there.
- You can test different providers quickly without reopening your client.
Chat2API offers some controls to fit your needs:
- API Key Storage: Safely save your keys for each AI provider.
- Request Logging: Enable logs to see sent and received messages.
- Timeout Settings: Adjust how long Chat2API waits for a response.
- Language Preferences: Some services support different languages or modes.
The settings are accessible from the app’s menu under Options.
- Installer won’t run: Make sure your Windows user account has permission to install software. Running the installer as Administrator can help.
- Chat2API does not connect: Check your internet connection. Verify that firewall or antivirus software does not block Chat2API.
- No responses from AI provider: Double-check your API keys or service selection. Some services may require credentials.
- Client can’t connect to Chat2API: Make sure the client is set to the correct API Endpoint shown in Chat2API.
