WomenInSoftwareDev

WomenInSoftwareDev

Update

After further evaluation - and based on recent experience - I’ve realized that a public website featuring specific, high-visibility women in web development can unintentionally put them at risk.

Even in 2026, cyberbullying, harassment, and targeted gatekeeping are still too common, and I refuse to build anything that could add fuel or make it easier for that behavior to escalate.

This doesn’t mean we stop, give up, or hide our work - it means we adapt: WomenInSoftwareDev should focus more on creating safer pathways to visibility and, just as importantly, on providing a supportive community for women in software development who have been harassed or gatekept, so we can navigate a broken reality with a more tactical approach.

About

I created WomenInSoftwareDev in 2014 as an open-source project dedicated primarily to software developers and hands-on programmers.

The phrase ‘Women in Tech’ often encompasses a wide range of digital and real-life tech roles, making it challenging to identify which fields are truly represented.

While the website includes a submenu highlighting other fields, the primary focus is on celebrating and supporting women who are deeply involved in programming.

WomenInSoftwareDev offers a space where women in software development can connect, share knowledge, inspire one another, and collaborate on open-source projects.
