Overview
Jira ticket: NDR-297
Description
The Github Role used for deployments is currently managed manually.
This ticket aims to move the DEV account Github role under Terraform control.
Further tickets will then apply similar changes to the other environments.
Context
Because the roles are currently managed manually, it can lead to the following problems:
If changes aren't made consistently across all accounts, deployments can fail.
Because of the manual nature, there is little auditing or change control. This could lead to unnoticed security risks.
Deployment to DEV
On first deployment, it will you the existing Github secret AWS_ASSUME_ROLE (github-actions-dev-role ).
This will then create the new role (dev-github-actions-role).
At this point, the AWS_ASSUME ROLE can be updated to point to the new role.
Any further deployments will then use the new role.
In the event of problems, AWS_ASSUME_ROLE can be reverted to it's original role.
As a follow up ticket, the old secret can be deleted and the code updated to use the AWS_ACCOUNT_ID secret to point directly to the new role. i.e. One less secret to maintain.
