CreateQuery doesn't exist?

I can import anything else fine from 'mongoose' -- just CreateQuery.

Have you installed @types/mongoose?

Afaik @types/mongoose is deprecated since mongoose now exports its own types and those don't include CreateQuery for some reason. Instead I just use a normal interface as the document type for insert queries.
