Reproduced on Windows with 3.15.0a3. Clicking Shell/Ed tab shrinks height of window. Some clicks restore or shrink. I agree that behavior is not desirable. Please sign the CLA so I can review PR.

EDIT: I believe box is sized so that it works on my Macbook. I will check the code to see if anything about Shell/Ed tab that explains behavior.

Do you mean that this bug is windows specific?

I did try to figure out why selecting all text in ttk.Entry makes the window resize but was able to do it. Its a problem within the configdialog it self as i tried to reproduce the bug but in other code sample the window doesn't resize. Hence the solution I figured out is to add a fix geometry and letting the outer frame expand to it which would prevent the window from resizing.

My comment about Mac is actually about Shell/edit window size. Ignore it. On my Macbook, the windows start shrunk, with the same behavior of clicking ShellEd unselecting zzdummy in Ext, but enlarging the window instead of shrinking. Clicking zzdummy shrinks again. I think the enlarged size is correct in that it displays as much of the font sample and the initial size on Windows. In think at least the cross-tab effect is an IDLE or tkinter/tk bug, but I will likely keep the geometry fix even if the bug is fixed. I am curious because I intend to convert pat/module browsers to use Treeview and want to understand its behavior better.
