Disable GUI Control Message Output until "GO"

Some GUI controls, notably slider, may be used to attain some end point. The steps themselves don't matter.
Could there be a slider mode (or is there a work-around?) to output the "new position" message only after I click "OK"?
As an example, using slider for radio tuning, a heavy load of intermediate steps introduces processing delays.
