@bradenmacdonald I noticed a mistake in the screenshot above that makes the proposed functionality confusing (the children tags under "astronomy" were incorrect). Here is an updated screenshot:

Feature: Keyword filtering of a Taxonomy’s tags

As a user viewing a taxonomy
The user wants to search for terms in the taxonomy
So that specific tags can be located quickly
And the user wants to be able to see every single tag in the taxonomy

Typing in the search field filters tags

Given the user is viewing the Taxonomy Detail page
When the user types text into the search field
Then the tag list displays only tags whose names contains the entered text, and the tag's ancestors to retain hierarchy.

Search only filters Value

Given the user is viewing the Taxonomy Detail page
When the user types text into the search field
Then the results displayed are based on the value of the tag
And no other metadata, such as External ID

Search is case-insensitive

Given the user enters a search term in the search field
When matching tags are displayed
Then tags are returned regardless of letter case differences

Parents of matching tags are displayed

Given a child tag matches the entered search text
When the filtered results are displayed
Then the matching child tag is shown in bold
And all of its parents tags are also shown
So that the hierarchy remains understandable

Pagination is hidden when search filtering is active

Given the user is viewing the Taxonomy Detail page
When the user enters text into the search field
Then the pagination controls are hidden
And the table grows to accommodate the search results

Result count reflects number of filtered results

Given the user enters text into the search field
When filtered results are displayed
Then the result count reflects the total number of filtered tags
And the text displays "Showing 1 – X of X"

Clearing search restores default view

Given the user has entered a search term
When the user clears the search input by clicking the X
Then the full taxonomy list is displayed
And pagination controls reappear
And the result count reflects the full dataset

No matches display an empty state

Given the user enters a search term that matches no tags
When the filter is applied
Then the tag list displays no matching results
And an appropriate empty state message is shown

Filtering occurs dynamically as the user types

Given the user enters text into the search field
When the user types additional characters
Then the results update dynamically

Search field is keyboard accessible

Given the user is navigating via keyboard
When focus is placed on the search input
Then the user can type a search term
And can clear the search using keyboard controls
