Preliminary graphic design

ActivityRecommender's interface is fairly stark at the moment. It would be very helpful if someone with some familiarity into graphic design could:

• do some mockups of what a more appealing interface might be
• explain why these mockups are more appealing, to ensure we can implement it properly and to ensure that in the future, new screens can be as compelling too

This could also relate to the issue about new users getting more familiar more easily, #1
