Problem Since July Update - Some Quicktexts Not Loading

Hi everyone,

I’m running into inconsistent behavior with Quicktext since the update in July and could use some guidance.

• I have a large set of templates, many with HTML formatting.
• JSON import works fine: all templates appear in the Quicktext editor correctly.
• The issue is with inserting templates into email drafts from the dropdown: some templates insert fine, while others insert only the placeholder like [[TEXT=Order Confirmations|. *Parts in Stock (Terms)]].
• Sometimes in a single dropdown, one template will work, some will insert placeholders, and others won’t populate at all. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason.
• I’ve cleaned problematic characters, removed nested tags, reverted some templates to plain text, and even deleted content from folders and forced a refresh/reload, but the problem persists.
• This behavior started with the July Quicktext update. For a while, I could revert to an older Quicktext version and my templates would work, but Thunderbird has updated so much since then that I can’t load any old Quicktext versions now—only the current version, which doesn’t work properly.
• My Thunderbird installation is fully up to date.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any insights or workarounds would be extremely helpful.

There are now a couple of forbidden characters. One is |, the others are [[ and ]]. You cannot use these in template titles anymore.

The old version allowed them, because an include triggered from the menu or from a shortcut directly accessed the template database. The new code is just inserting the TEXT tag, which is then being processed. However, the TEXT tag may not use the mentioned chars, as they have special meaning for the tag evaluation process.

This was an inconsistency in the old code: Any template which used these chars worked from the menu/shortcut, but not if used as a TEXT tag. The new version fails on both.

I was actually not aware of this until the similar bugs were reported.

I checked for the forbidden characters and my template titles don't have those characters. The only non-alpha numeric characters I use in template titles are spaces, dashes, periods, asterisks, and parentheses. I do use the variables function to add the recipients first name within the template and that includes [[ and ]]. I tried removing that from the template body and the templates were still unfortunately broken.

Any other ideas?

Are you using the latest beta version from this repository?

The final option we have is that you send me your exported JSON templates, so that I can test them directly.

@wsmwk yes this had seemed to be related - QuickText indeed failed to paste HTML as HTML when it also contained nested TEXT tags - I've noticed it after posting my issue, now it seems to work fine.
