What about OVD and ⁓the fork⁓

Oh boi, that OVD 3.0 was unexpected, but from a quick testing it feels so refreshing and pleasant to use, and it even fixes my longstanding issue of thumbnails not embedding! Just in time for christmas! 😆

I think many of us are now wondering about the future of this software, but also ⁓the fork⁓

During the three years of hiatus of this project (which I remember unannounced and abrupt, but I could confuse the situation with another software... It's sadly not rare in software development especially FOSS), @StefanLobbenmeier took care of keeping it alive over on this fork. Without this, OVD might not have preserved an active userbase through all those years.

Was there any discussions between the two repos about this 3.0 update? Is everybody gathering together here stronger? Are the two to split ways? Something else?

Regardless, congratulations on pushing this new baby through, and thanks for any communications on that topic :) Happy end of year y'all!

Heya! Thanks for asking about the fork. First of all I'd like to thank @StefanLobbenmeier a bunch for keeping OVD alive throughout the years.

He asked me about the same question yesterday: #261 (comment)

I think I'll compare the fork to 2.4.0 and apply any notable changes/improvements to v3. It's not as easy as merging the fork back, as v3 has a completely different back-end. But conceptually they achieve the same thing of course.

The abandonment was indeed unannounced and abrupt. (You remembered right) I could have done a lot better there and have learned over the years.
