Reloading the page breaks the authentication/user model link

Steps to reproduce:

1. Log in.
2. Reload the page.

Expected:

User is still signed in.

Actual:

User is "half" signed in. It still says sign out, but the gravatar is missing. The User model is not being loaded on page reload.

But there's still an issue. That resolves the "not logged in, oh wait, logged in", but it doesn't resolve the issue of the user not being loaded. I'd speculate "race condition", but our handler bound to $firebaseSimpleLogin:login never fires.
