I've been doing a bit more reading around meson and cmake, given they are somewhat simiar pieces of software. I gather meson's advantage might be being better documented - certainly some of my frustrations with cmake has been how to figure how to do things, although more of my frustrations are with qmake, which simply does not provide enough functionality, and when it does, it can be hard to find out how to do things.

One requirement is that my software needs to be buildable on mxe. Neither meson nor ninja have currently been ported to mxe, however cmake has.

That's not the issue. MXE runs on a Linux platform, so you can assume Python is available. The issue is that it is a cross compilation environment, so installed software is found in special locations. There would be work required to get the meson configuration files right, work that has already been done for cmake (and qmake and autotools, incidently, but that's irrelevant). Cheers

There are a number of picky warnings that the compiler produces now - the code will be correct. To silence this warning, you have to add some redundant braces. Another warning like this is in expressions of the form: a && b || c where you have to add a redundant set of parentheses around the a&&b. I have read the reasons for these warnings - I don't necessarily agree with the reasons (particularly the logical op one), but warnings in general serve a purpose, so it is worthwhile making the code warning free.
