Clarity Architecture

Privacy-First Cognitive Partner - Technical Architecture

🏗️ System Overview

Clarity is built as a hybrid architecture supporting multiple inference modes while maintaining privacy-first principles. The system consists of a modern React SPA with multiple backend inference options.

🔄 Application Flow

1. Onboarding Flow

User Entry → Welcome → Privacy Explanation → Model Options → Import Setup

Components:

  • Onboarding.tsx: Multi-step guided tour
  • Privacy-first messaging and model acquisition guidance
  • Skip options for different user types

2. Model Import Flow

File Selection → Validation → Storage → Verification → Ready

Components:

  • ModelImport.tsx: File handling and validation
  • model-store.ts: State management and storage
  • storage.ts: IndexedDB operations
  • SHA256 verification and progress tracking

3. Main Application Flow

Chat Interface → Input Processing → Inference → Response → History

Components:

  • ChatInterface.tsx: Main chat interface
  • HistoryView.tsx: Conversation management
  • Voice input with Web Speech API
  • Structured JSON output with confidence scoring

🎯 Inference Modes

Demo Mode (OpenRouter API)

  • Purpose: Testing and demonstration without local model
  • Privacy: ⚠️ Data leaves device (clearly marked)
  • Setup: API key configuration in .env
  • Use Case: Judges, demos, quick testing

Ollama Mode (Local API)

  • Purpose: Local inference via Ollama server
  • Privacy: ✅ 100% local processing
  • Setup: Ollama server running on localhost:11434
  • Use Case: Developers, power users, privacy-conscious users

Local Model Mode (IndexedDB)

  • Purpose: Fully offline inference in browser
  • Privacy: ✅ 100% offline, no network requests
  • Setup: Model file imported via Web UI
  • Use Case: Production use, maximum privacy

Persistence Strategy

  • localStorage: Onboarding completion status

  • No Cloud Storage: All data remains on user's device
