Adding nested parts without automatically showing the composition relationship in the view

Dear Community,

I am part of the Asatte Press team, and we are currently writing SysML v2 for Beginners using SysON.

I’ve encountered an issue when creating nested elements. The tool automatically generates these nested elements as composition relationships, which leads to redundant items appearing in the view (see attached figure). As a result, each created element must be manually hidden. This is especially inefficient process when working with action flows where many such elements are generated.

Is there a way to disable or suppress the automatic creation of composition relationships for nested elements?

Another small point: when creating parts, the tool automatically shows the interconnection compartments, even if they aren't needed.
Is there any way to change this behavior?

At the moment, even adding just two nested parts creates quite a bit of extra work because I have to hide all the unwanted elements (see Fig.).
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

This is the Interconnection View diagram which shows nested elements inside the interconnection compartments.
The nested elements linked by composition edges should not be displayed.
This is a bug and will be fixed in the next release 2025.12.0 (on December the 3rd).

Hello,

In the General View diagram, the SysMLv2 specification says "the typical rendering in graphical notation is as a graph of nodes and edges". That's why, by default, we decided to hide all compartments and display new nested elements linked by a composition edge to their parents.

But when you start displaying some compartments, in your case the action flow one, it will then display the nested actions inside the action flow compartment but also as separate nodes linked by a composition edge.

So, to answer your question "Is there a way to disable or suppress the automatic creation of composition relationships for nested elements?", no there is no way to automatically disable or suppress this behavior with the current version (2025.10.0) of SysON.

We are not satisfied by this behavior. We are trying to solve that but we are not sure yet on the way will do it.

Hi Axel,

In most views, one generally wants to see either the composition relationships or the nested relationships, but not both at the same time. In some general views, showing the nested elements of a part can be useful as well. I think this case should be optional and not per default.

Because of that, it might be convenient if nested elements and composition relationships were not displayed simultaneously.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something, so I would like to ask: How would one ideally create nested parts in this case?

From my observations, there seem to be two current options:

1. Creating an Interconnection View to generate nested parts and then showing them in a general view.
   This automatically generates composition relationships, which then have to be hidden manually.

2. Creating a part, then selecting it and adding new parts inside it.
   This also creates composition relationships that need to be hidden.

The second approach was to my knowledge not possible in older versions, but it is more convenient, and it would be even better if those redundant composition relationships were not created at all.

A possible behavior that might feel more intuitive could be:

• When a part is created, only the part itself is shown, without automatically displaying the interconnection compartment.

• When a part is selected and a new part is added, the goal is usually to model the interconnection relationship, so only the nested part should appear without additional composition relationships.

• When a part is created directly on the view, the intention is typically to define a composition or another relationship.

I would be curious to hear how you would approach this best.
