Polyglot Notebooks Deprecation

How do single-file apps replace:

• embedded and rendered markdown
• rendered charts with Mermaid
• the ability to run snippets in one cell whose expensive output is stateful and transfers forward to the next cells
• cross-language variable support (including PowerShell)
• most recent cell output stored with the notebook

It's extremely frustrating that we see Copilot shoehorned everywhere as if it's the answer for every need, yet it seems ineffective to help Microsoft deal with maintenance of such a useful tool as Polyglot Notebooks. Are we supposed to have Copilot custom-write an equivalent tool every time we need a new notebook?

Also, if AI is such a boost to developer productivity, shouldn't it be very low cost for Microsoft to continue maintaining Polyglot Notebooks?

Has the deprecation of Polyglot Notebooks been made under faulty assumptions/knowledge ?

The 'recommendation' to use single-file apps is so far from the use case of Polyglot Notebooks (as in, single-file apps have no relevance whatsoever) that it makes me think the deprecation was made within Microsoft with fundamental misunderstandings of what people use the Notebooks for (all well captured by the OP)

Just like Microsoft's online developer documentation has executable snippets via .NET Interactive islands, I view PN as a way to have live documentation mixed with runnable, editable examples. If OneNote could handle that function, I would gladly trade it for a VSCode extension.
