Using checkmark for "Select your favorite languages"

Wouldn't it be better to use checkmarks (✔︎) instead of X's for UI clarity?

Using X's implies that all languages are selected as favorites by default and clicking on one of them excludes them.

I managed to get the app working on my local and changed this code block:
