Browser Profiles

Feature request:

I have multiple profiles in Chrome and Firefox, it would be amazing if I could specify which profile to open a given URL in.

Hmm this is an interesting one, I'll have to dig into the browsers APIs and see if they offer a flag to pass to their respective open commands.

I know you can do it from the CLI with both Chrome and FF.

Chrome has a --profile-directory=<path to dir> flag

FF uses a -P <profile> flag

I didn't dig into how your app calls the respective apps, but maybe this is helpful. 🤷

That definitely helps! It seems like you need the names of the profiles though, we'll have to figure out how to get those. Looks like chrome might be a bit easier.
Also trying to think through what the UX would look like for this.

I can't speak to every OS, but I notice that on macOS there's a ~/Application Support/Firefox/profiles.ini file that lists all the profiles available. I imagine that same file exists on *nix and Windows machines (though in a different path).

Chrome seems to have a JSON format file at ~/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Local State which has the profiles listed at .profile.info_cache[]. Again, I assume that file exists across all platforms, just the path differs.

As for the UX ... maybe just enumerate each profile as a separate browser in the list?

• Firefox: profile1
• Firefox: profile2

... except maybe with their prettier profile names, assuming those are available via the respective config file sources.
