Maybe we could use velocimeter in mobile phones to detect when there's a bump/pothole. We can find out the threshold of the acceleration/speed when the car hits a pothole; we can also restrict sending the detection when it's on the road; we can also aggregate all the detections to find out where the pothole is. Automation you know.
