Speed up saving of editor contents

Saving the contents of an editor requires some considerable time. This interrupts the usual workflow of users. The issue is agnostic regarding the concrete syntax type.

This issue might already be resolved when #187 is done. If the speed up is not sufficient, investigate other methods of speeding up the save operation.
