Massive RAM leak on Linux - 32GB gone in 50s

Hey, I'm using Arch Linux and your GUI is literally killing my PC. I have 32 GB of RAM, and that app managed to eat all of it in about 50 seconds, completely freezing my system. I had to do a hard reset.

It's not a "Can't keep up" minecraft lag - it happens even when the server isn't doing much.

So I looked into this and I think it's actually a combo of two things:

There was a bug where the backend crashes immediately on Linux because it tries to write to a read-only path. When that happens, the frontend goes into a crazy retry loop trying to reconnect, which eats memory fast.

Also — and this might be your case too — the app had no limit on how much RAM you could assign to the server. So if you have 32GB and set the slider to like 30GB, Java will try to grab all of it and your system just dies. I should've added a cap from the beginning tbh.

I'm really sorry about this, I develop on Windows so I didn't catch the Linux-specific crash. Fix is in the next release!
