Dear everyone,

To put an end to the recent speculation: yes, I'm alive and well! 😊 No illness or anything dramatic—just life getting in the way.

The simple truth is that I no longer have the spare time needed to keep my projects alive. Between a full-time job and family life, I barely use my personal computers these days outside of work.

Now in my forties, with a wife and kids, the hours that I once spent hunting down bugs or finding creative workarounds for Mozilla’s frequent changes have largely disappeared.

Since 2011, I’ve poured my heart into various projects - Noia 4 (the revival of the beloved Noia 2 theme), Classic Theme Restorer, Classic Toolbar Buttons, GlassMyFox, and others - for Firefox, Thunderbird, and SeaMonkey. Over the years, “progress” gradually made most of them incompatible, but I did my best to keep custom UI tweaks alive through CustomCSSforFx and my other GitHub repositories, always sharing everything openly with the community.

In recent years, I reached out to several enthusiastic supporters, hoping someone might take over or at least help keep things updated using the great suggestions and fixes you all shared in issues and discussions. Unfortunately, no one stepped forward - and I completely understand; maintaining these projects is a significant commitment, and I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to take it on.

If you’re looking for active alternatives, I highly recommend checking out Wavefox and MrOtherGuy's CSS hacks. Both are still being regularly updated.

It’s been a wonderful journey these past years, and I’m truly grateful for the support, feedback, and camaraderie from this community. Now, though, it feels like the right time to let go and move on.

Feel free to continue using my project files for as long as they work for you. You’re welcome to fork them, build upon them, or develop them in whatever direction you’d like.

These are muchly appreciated words. It's unfortunate, but 100% understandable. It become burdensome and often more and more difficult to maintain this kind of endeavor. Shame on Firefox for making your project a near necessity. Without it, life at the pc would be much more difficult. Like my windows 10 systems, I shall try to keep alive what you've written that I've incorporated for another 20 years. That should do it. I'm 74.

Thanks for all the insight and fulfilled requests over the years. You will be missed, especially when Mozilla breaks things.

I definitely understand. After four surgeries 2023-2024, I figured it was time to quit tinkering with browsers. I had been involved browser mods since Opera 2.0.

In January of 2025 I needed to get a new computer. Moving & installing software revealed that a lot of updates were needed. Vivaldi has been my main browser for several years. I had to wake up my 80 yo brain, so I started updating portable Firefox & Firefox forks. Everything went fine until I upgraded my my monitor to a 43 inch 4K Pioneer. Win 11 fonts and display percentages can drive you crazy.

I have Firefox. Waterfox, Librefox, and Phyrox Developer functioning to my satisfaction. I have finally gotten your
CustomJSforFx to function with the latest Firefox-UI-Fix from black7375

Happy to read you are fine Aris, It is right that life and family should take precedence over anything else.
Your contribution to making Firefox more decent will be missed after the foundation's controversial choices. I hope someone can now organize a fork because this project, unlike other CSS projects, is much better made and much easier to understand and use.

I knew this would happen eventually but gosh I wish it wasn't so soon!
Will you still review pull requests if they come your way? Maybe one person can't make sure everything is working, but there's many elements people might still want working and they'd like to make sure it's working for others. Like squared tabs or things of that sort. I'm sure someone can volunteer to manage that if need be, at least, right?

Going to miss you! Definitely going to miss this project too. I have been using it ever since the drop of old add-ons occurred to keep Firefox looking the way I love. Always appreciated your hard work and commitment. Hope things for your future life go well. Maybe one day you'll find the time (and interest!) to start working on this again, hahaha. But seriously, thanks a ton.

I am thankful all is good for you, Aris and heartbroken contemplating losing the functionality you bestowed on us. My day would not be near as enjoyable without the tweaks you allowed us to meet our individual ways of computing. Sincere thanks. And sincere hopes someone(s) pick up this ball.

Hi Aris, thank you very much for all the work you have put in over the years. I hope you enjoy your family project, have fun with it. Many users in the German Firefox Forum use your scripts and codes and will now have to keep them running on their own. When you retire and have more time again, you can get back into it here. :-)) Until then, best wishes and stay healthy!
