Making an attribute required does not work with auto-incrementing lot number segment

We want one of the attributes on the lot number to be required.  One segment of our lot number is auto-incrementing.  Even though the required attribute was entered, upon trying to release the receipt we get an error that a required attribute is missing and can't release.  Acumatica developer support looked at customization and confirmed it was not programmed to handle this scenario.
